Thai Cooking Class

After spending a couple of months in Thailand, eating out every night and almost no time left before going home, we figured we couldn’t leave this country without learning how to cook a proper Thai dish. A trip to Koh Chang was already planned and some internet research led us to ‘Koh Chang Thai Cooking‘, a Thai cooking class on the island. One quick phone call later our class was scheduled and a few days later we were picked up from our bungalow by the owner of the cooking class. Ready for some serious cooking.

We drove for a while ending up in the middle of nature, with just a few small houses around us. The sun was shining through all the leaves, illuminating the yellow walls in the outdoor kitchen, making it look like such a warm and welcoming place. While waiting for two other participants to arrive, we had a browse in the little store attached to the school, which was really cute. The entire place just breaths the love that was put into this space by Nam and her husband. A little while later our cooking apron was on, our hands were washed and with our given cook book plus pen we were ready to take some serious notes.

In just a few hours we learned how to make spring rolls with chilli sauce, Thai soup, Thai curry, Chicken with Basil and a banana dessert. Nam guided us through the entire process of rolling the spring rolls, crushing the herbs, getting the right amount of chilli’s (quite important haha), all ending in us actually creating our own curry paste. We all decided to go for different types of soups and curries so we could have a big tasting feast after our class.

Nam, was the best and explained everything very well. Since we are from Europe not all ingredients that we used during the class are available there, but for most ingredients she new replacements that can be bought back home!

We build up quite the appetite after all the cooking and after the class it was time to have a nice group dinner. We all sat at the table together chatting away, tasting each others dishes and picking our favourite ones. It was such a nice time and the food was absolutely amazing!
